Vinyl
2010 is the formal industry body set up by the plastics sector to
research, promote and support the adoption of best environmental
practice and sustainable development. Most of the industry’s
leading companies, including Dekura, are signatories to Vinyl 2010’s
voluntary charter, which sets out challenging standards and targets
for the industry.
The organisation is working closely with the European
Commission, national governments and local authorities to draft
and / or develop environmental legislation for the industry. Key
objectives include greater regulation of waste management, the promotion
of recycling, the research and development of new, greener production
technologies and the replacement of harmful substances, such as
lead stabilisers, which are used in PVC-u manufacture.
Funded by its members, Vinyl 2010 has published
various targets for its members. These include:
| |
 |
Full compliance
with ECVM charters relating
to PVC-u production emission standards
|
|
|
Full replacement of lead
stabilisers in production by 2015 (having already eradicated
cadmium)
|
|
|
Recycling
of 50% of collectible available PVC-u waste from windows
profiles, pipes, fittings and roofing membranes by 2005
|
|
|
The dramatic expansion and
development of recycling methods
and channels, in partnership with the community
|
|
|
Total recycling of 200,000
additional tonnes of post consumer PVC-u waste
|
Clearly, every PVC-u user can make a telling contribution
to the achievement of these targets. Manufacturing waste is technologically
and logistically one of the easiest forms to recover and for producers
it is as simple as appointing an accredited service provider, such
as Dekura.
